Each year the Press contributes to a diversity of charitable endeavors, working at national and regional levels, that reflect and work to further some of PUP鈥檚 core values of community, collaboration, curiosity, equitability, and inclusivity. Books through Bars
is a volunteer-run organization that distributes free books and educational materials to incarcerated people in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia and West Virginia. They receive hundreds of letters each week from prisoners requesting books and send over 8,000 book packages annually.
National Public Radio
is an independent, nonprofit media organization founded on a mission to create a more informed public.
We Need Diverse Books
aims to put more books featuring diverse characters into the hands of all children.
Learning Ally
is a non-profit K-12 education solutions program that focuses on multi-sensory supports for students with dyslexia and other reading deficits.
Center for Black Literature
The at Medgar Evers College which works to expand, broaden, and enrich the public鈥檚 knowledge and aesthetic appreciation of Black literature by people of the African Diaspora. The Center hosts the annual National Black Writers Conference.
People of Color in Publishing
is a grassroots organization created by book publishing professionals dedicated to supporting, empowering, and uplifting racially and ethnically marginalized members throughout the industry.
CCNY Publishing Program
The at City College of New York provides undergraduate and non-matriculating students with the knowledge, professional skills and contacts necessary to enter the publishing industry. A special concern of the Program is the issue of diversity in the book publishing industry and its impact on cultural production and our national and global markets.
People & Stories
works to create a more equitable society by inviting new audiences to experience our humanistic, literary heritage. Through oral readings and rigorous discussions of enduring short stories, they invite underserved participants to find fresh understandings of themselves, of others, and of the world. People & Stories / Gente y Cuentos offers reading and discussion programs in English or Spanish.
